The number of Americans without health insurance drops to 45.7 million in 2007, as Census Bureau data also show inflation-adjusted median household income on the rise. On the downside, the ranks of the population living in poverty also show an increase.

Participation in government health insurance programs -- particularly those aimed at children -- increased from 2006 to 2007, leading to a decrease in the number of Americans lacking insurance, the U.S. Census Bureau said Tuesday.

Georgia's mental health services get own department (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Gov. Sonny Perdue wants to reorganize Georgia's social services agencies, creating a separate department to oversee the perpetually troubled state psychiatric hospitals and other mental health services.
